On June 17th, we held our first-ever Wish Short Film Showcase — and it was everything we hoped for and more. A space for stories. A night for community. A celebration of filmmakers whose voices are shaping the future of visual culture.
In celebration of Juneteenth, the showcase was rooted in themes of creativity, self-expression, and liberation — honoring the power of Black storytelling and the importance of creating space for underrepresented voices in film. The timing gave the evening an even deeper resonance, without ever needing to say it out loud.

Hosted at Block & Drum and made possible through the support of adidas Cornerstone, the event brought together a packed house of artists, filmmakers, and supporters. Even through unexpected weather and wild conditions, the energy never wavered.

We had the honor of presenting six impactful films from a lineup of bold, emerging talents:
-
🎬 Christian Nolan Jones – Glitter Ain’t Gold
-
🎬 Dominick Cormier – Don’t Wipe Your Tears
-
🎬 Jeffery Jackson – Shot4Shot
-
🎬 Alex Woodruff – Thomasville
-
🎬 Maiya May – Join the Adventure: ICELAND
-
🎬 Kim Alex Hall – S.i.r.

Each film offered something personal, powerful, and distinct — from deeply emotional storytelling to fresh visual experimentation. Together, they formed a collective statement about where film is headed and who’s leading that charge.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible — our partners, our hosts, the incredible filmmakers, and everyone who pulled up. We’re proud to have created space for these stories to be seen and shared.
This was just the beginning.
