CELEBRATING BHM: MARINA SKYE

While we continue to celebrate Black History Month, remembering the achievements, contributions, resilience, and legacies, we want to also shed a light on Black creatives, entrepreneurs, and leaders leaving their mark in our community, presently and in the future.

We had the chance to learn more about Marina Skye aka "SetBySkye", a multidisciplinary creative who owns a Set Design/Creative Direction agency. Meanwhile, she checked out new arrivals of black-owned brand Martine Rose.

I started in Fashion. My first business was a vintage clothing line, however I started to realize that I was beginning to pay more attention to how I was making my booth look unique at trade shows instead of the clothing I was supposed to be selling to people there.

From there I realized that Set Design and Creative Direction were my actual passions. I did free work for a full year, building my portfolio up and got my first big project doing the design of a nightclub that was on Trinity ave Club DayDreams. Then the Trap Music Museum, then creative consulting for Jidenna, Summer Walker, Wale, Backwoods and the project just kept moving from there.

My main goal is to Scale.

Scale my business: By broadening the scope of my team’s creative capacities. This year: 2 Coachella stage designs and 3 global tour designs.

Scale my personal life's experiences: Traveling more to seek inspiration and spend precious moments with friends and family.
